Door step Scammers

Good Morning.

We have recently received reports around doorstep gardening scammers in Stapenhill.

Scammers knock on your door or leave leaflets offering services, such as a price for cutting down a tree etc, once they have their foot in the door they often pressure you into having more work done resulting in the victim owing , sometimes thousands of pounds.

The work is often of poor quality.

They often ask for money upfront. Never pay in advance.

There have been occasions where they have taken victims to the cash point to withdraw the money.

If you need gardening issues to be sorted, approach traders yourself after doing thorough checks. Look for traders recommended by friends and family or use approved schemes like Trust a Trader.

Look out for elderly friends, neighbours and family.

Report any suspicious activity or suspected doorstep crime to Trading standards or 101.
